My Big Brother Michael

After years of painful surgeries, I lost my leg because of an old high school football injury. Finding a safe, accessible home is not easy. I depend on strong grab bars, ramps, and other equipment that must always be in good working order—not just for comfort, but for my safety and independence.

That’s why I’m so grateful my little sister created Remodel Relief. She built it to keep homes and vehicles safe for people with disabilities like me. My wish is that every agency serving adults with disabilities would use Remodel Relief—because it means more than repairs, it means dignity, peace of mind, and the freedom to live fully.

This was my house

Before I started Remodel Relief, I was living through a remodeling nightmare, I created this platform so no one else would have to.

A Broken System and a Broken Home

I thought I hired professionals, but what I got was six months of stress, thousands of dollars in damage, and no repairs.

  • Contractor wasn’t licensed, bonded or insured
  • No builder’s permit filed before work was started
  • Work crew walked off the job (lack of payment)
  • 4 week job dragged on 8 months
  • Flooded basement/frozen pipes $400
  • Destroyed our lawn $3,000
  • Broke our gas line $2,400
  • Damage to our air conditioner $600
  • Still owes us $15,000 worth of labor & materials
  • Rubble and trash left on site (dumpster $500)
  • Frequent “No Shows”
  • Legal fees for Lien Releases w/subcontractors $2,500
  • Total $24,400
  • Stress + Anxiety +
    Inconvenience

We Built the Platform I Wish I’d had

After months of feeling stuck, I realized something bigger was broken, the entire process off finding help in the repair and remodeling process.
